Islamabad, Oct 11 (NationPress) Tragically, seven police officers in Pakistan have lost their lives, with another 13 injured, following a brutal attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), as confirmed by authorities on Saturday.
The harrowing incident took place in Dera Ismail (DI) Khan district late Friday night. Attackers attempted to breach the police training school by ramming a vehicle loaded with explosives into its boundary wall, according to local media reports.
As per police accounts, the heavily armed assailants initiated the assault with a suicide bombing before engaging in a fierce gunfight with police officers stationed at the facility. Pakistani media outlet Geo News reported that the conflict resulted in the deaths of seven police officers and five attackers.
During the chaos, attackers reportedly set fire to the nearby National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) office, obstructing security movements. The flames quickly consumed multiple vehicles parked in the vicinity before being brought under control.
In a media briefing, Muhammad Imran Khan, Director General of Public Relations (DGPR) KP, stated that over 200 police officers and recruits present at the training school during the attack were safely evacuated.
Recently, various regions in KP, including Bannu, Peshawar, Karak, Lakki Marwat, and Bajaur, have experienced a surge in assaults targeting Pakistani police personnel.
Just days prior, a senior army officer was killed during an Intelligence-Based Operation (IBO) in DI Khan, while another police officer was fatally attacked at a police checkpoint.
The security situation in Pakistan appears to be deteriorating, with violent protests and terror attacks affecting Lahore and KP, respectively.
As protests erupted in Lahore following clashes between security forces and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), the Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) also claimed responsibility for the killing of an Army Major and injuries to several soldiers in KP.
This wave of violence unfolds as Pakistan seeks to forge alliances between Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) in an effort to combat the TTP in KP and Balochistan.
