Islamabad, Dec 3 (NationPress) A tragic incident unfolded in the Dera Ismail Khan region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan on Wednesday, where a blast specifically targeting a police vehicle resulted in the deaths of three police officers, one of whom was an assistant sub-inspector (ASI). This information was reported by local media, quoting district police spokesperson Yaqoob Zulqarnain.

Zulqarnain confirmed that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device in the Paniyala area, as noted by Pakistan's prominent daily, Dawn.

The deceased were identified as ASI Gul Alam, Constable Rafiq, and the mobile van driver, Sakhi Jan. Fortunately, another constable who was present escaped unharmed.

The spokesperson mentioned that security forces have secured the area and launched a search operation. He stated, "The police are pursuing the attackers, and investigations are underway from all perspectives."

In a related incident, four individuals, including a senior government official and three others, sustained injuries when a convoy belonging to North Waziristan Assistant Commissioner Shah Wali Khan was attacked in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as per Samaa TV.

Shah Wali Khan was traveling with his security team on the Bannu–Miranshah Road when the convoy was ambushed near Masoomabad Mamandkhel. He was killed instantly, along with two police personnel and a bystander.

Three additional individuals, including two members of Shah Wali Khan's security detail and the driver of the convoy, were injured and transported to a medical facility for treatment.

Pakistan has seen a surge in militant activities over the past year, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ending their ceasefire with the government in November 2022.

On Monday, a police officer was killed and three others were injured due to a suicide explosion that targeted a security vehicle in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The spokesperson for Lakki Marwat District Police, Asif Hassan, reported that a Tajori police mobile was the target of the suicide blast, and the deceased was identified as head constable Alauddin. It was noted that the bomber's accomplice escaped the scene.

Recent findings from the Islamabad-based Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) indicate that Pakistan has experienced a staggering over 46% increase in violence during the third quarter of 2025.

The report reveals that Pakistan recorded at least 901 deaths and 599 injuries—affecting civilians, security personnel, and criminals—resulting from 329 violent incidents, including terror attacks and counter-terror operations.

From January to September 2024 (Q1-Q3), Pakistan documented 1,527 fatalities. The total of 2,414 fatalities during this period reflects a 58% rise in violence. Notably, the origins of these fatalities have changed, with 505 reported deaths from security operations in 2024 and 1,022 from terror attacks.
