Yangon, March 4 (NationPress) The launch of the India-supported initiative for the establishment of the three-storey literary center, known as the Sarsobeikman building, with an estimated cost of $3.77 million, took place in Yangon, Myanmar, on Wednesday.
This project is focused on the preservation and enhancement of Myanmar's literary heritage, demonstrating India's ongoing dedication to fostering the socio-economic growth of this Southeast Asian country.
As reported by the Indian Embassy in Yangon, the inauguration featured a special video message from External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, with Myanmar’s Prime Minister U Nyo Saw serving as the Chief Guest.
Also in attendance were Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Abhay Thakur, various Myanmar ministers, and senior officials.
Notable writers, scholars, and artists from Myanmar's rich literary and cultural scene, alongside members of the Indian diaspora, were present at the ceremony.
The three-storey Sarsobeikman structure is designed to highlight the profound development of Myanmar's literary and artistic heritage, spanning from the Bagan era to the colonial period and into contemporary times. The complex will house exhibition areas, archival displays, a mini-theatre, and a special hall for literary and cultural activities, making it a dynamic hub for promoting literature, arts, and creative interactions.
The Embassy further noted, "This initiative also emphasizes the literary ties between India and Myanmar, particularly through texts related to Buddhism and various shared spiritual and cultural traditions, including works in the Pali language."
The project is an integral part of India’s wider development partnership strategy.
“The Sarsobeikman building is envisioned as a dedicated space for literary conservation and artistic expression, expected to provide a lasting venue for intellectual discourse, cultural exchanges, and collaborative creativity,” the Embassy remarked.
This significant initiative is a testament to the shared civilizational connections and close cooperative relations that continue to enhance the enduring friendship and goodwill between India and Myanmar.
