Guwahati, April 17 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, on his visit to Karbi Anglong district, inaugurated development initiatives exceeding Rs 100 crore on Thursday.

The projects involve the laying, widening, and upgrading of roads, along with bridges and other infrastructures, which are anticipated to significantly enhance connectivity in Karbi Anglong.

During a ceremony, Sarma stated, “Today marks a significant milestone for Karbi Anglong. Connectivity projects exceeding Rs. 100 crore have been launched for the benefit of the community, along with other vital undertakings. These initiatives will usher in remarkable growth in Karbi Anglong.”

He also mentioned the provision of pre-school materials at Anganwadi Centres, aiming to foster a joyful and enriching environment for young learners, promoting their overall development through engaging activities.

The Chief Minister acknowledged that Anganwadi workers and helpers statewide have requested an increase in their pay. In response, he assured that measures would be implemented to elevate their remuneration starting from October 1 this year.

Additionally, Sarma declared that a one-time financial assistance would be granted to Anganwadi workers and helpers.

He emphasized that educational development is crucial for progress, revealing the government's plans to establish a Medical College, Engineering College, Sainik School, and a Cancer Hospital in the hilly region.

Thus, he stated that to effectively operate these institutions, the hill district requires skilled personnel.

The Chief Minister confirmed that the government is committed to improving the academic environment, including the infrastructure of educational facilities from Anganwadi Centres to colleges in Karbi Anglong, ensuring they develop competent human resources.

“We have been actively pursuing various infrastructure projects aimed at meeting educational needs, and this initiative will persist. If we wish to provide our children with quality higher education, we must establish a solid foundation beginning with proper learning at Anganwadi centres,” he stated.

Sarma also provided updates on the inauguration of several projects in Karbi Anglong.

To alleviate traffic congestion for the residents of Diphu, the 1.4 KM four-lane flyover currently under construction from Diphu Stadium to General Post Office, financed by Rs 198 crore, is expected to be finished by December 31, 2025. Furthermore, a 29.70 KM road from Hamren to Tumpreng aims to be completed by the end of December this year.
