Yangon, April 8 (NationPress) On Wednesday, the Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, participated in a 'Deck Reception' aboard the Indian Navy Survey Ship INS Sandhayak in Yangon, shortly after his arrival in Myanmar for the inaugural ceremony of the nation’s new President, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, set to occur in the capital, Naypyidaw, on April 10.
Singh noted that his discussions with senior officials highlighted the strong ties between India and Myanmar. He emphasized that the visit of INS Sandhayak aligns with the MAHASAGAR vision articulated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi via a post on X.
Upon his arrival in Yangon, Singh was welcomed by Abhay Thakur, the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, alongside U Zaw Phyo Win, the Director-General of Myanmar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
During his trip, the MoS is scheduled to meet with Myanmar government officials, engage in bilateral discussions on ongoing trade, economic development assistance, and connect with the Indian community and supporters of India.
The Indian Embassy in Yangon shared on X, "Upon his arrival today in Yangon, Kirti Vardhan Singh was greeted by Ambassador Abhay Thakur and DG MOFA U Zaw Phyo Win. Throughout his visit, he will participate in the President of Myanmar's inaugural ceremony, meet with GOM dignitaries, and interact with the Indian diaspora and friends of India."
As per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Singh is in Myanmar for a four-day visit from April 8-11 at the invitation of the Myanmar government.
Min Aung Hlaing was elected as President on April 3 after winning more votes than the other two candidates.
His two Vice Presidents include former military-appointed Prime Minister Nyo Saw, a loyalist, and Nan Ni Ni Aye, chair of the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) in Karen State, as reported by The Irrawaddy.
In the lead-up to his election, Min Aung Hlaing stepped down as Commander-in-Chief, appointing General Ye Win Oo as his successor.
Min Aung Hlaing has been in power in Myanmar since 2021. Elections took place in December 2025 and January 2026, during which the USDP claimed victory.
Experts believe that the political landscape in Myanmar, which has faced a five-year deadlock, is now positioned to encourage both domestic and regional stability in the years ahead.
