The arrival marks the first India visit by the Myanmar President since he assumed office, and opens a five-day diplomatic engagement that includes talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a business forum.

Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh received President U Min Aung Hlaing at the airport. In a post on X, Singh said: 'Honoured to welcome President H.E. Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar on his arrival in Delhi. His visit underscores the enduring civilisational, cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Myanmar. It also provides an opportunity to further strengthen our partnership across diverse sectors and advance our shared vision for regional peace, prosperity and connectivity.'

Spiritual Start in Bodh Gaya

The Myanmar President began his India visit from Gaya, Bihar, where he offered prayers at the Mahabodhi Temple — one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the world. The MEA noted that 'the visit reflects the strong spiritual, historical and people-to-people ties that bind our two countries and the depth of our ongoing cooperation.' The choice of Bodh Gaya as the first stop carries clear symbolic weight, underscoring the civilisational and religious linkages between the two nations.

President U Min Aung Hlaing is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1 June, focused on deepening ties across multiple sectors. On 2 June, he will travel to Mumbai for business and industry interactions and site visits. He is also scheduled to participate in a dedicated business forum during the visit. This visit builds on recent diplomatic groundwork. In April, MoS Kirti Vardhan Singh travelled to Myanmar to attend the swearing-in ceremony of U Min Aung Hlaing as Myanmar's President. On 10 April, Singh called on the President and delivered a letter of felicitations from PM Modi, reaffirming India's commitment to bilateral cooperation under its 'Neighbourhood First', 'Act East', and 'MAHASAGAR' policy frameworks, along with developmental assistance for the people of Myanmar.
