Oman stands as India's closest defence ally in the Gulf region, with defence cooperation forming a cornerstone of the strategic partnership between the two nations. Oman is the first Gulf country where all three branches of India's armed forces conduct joint exercises. In recent years, both nations have collaborated to ensure maritime security in the Indian Ocean region.
In April, the 6th High-Level Meeting between the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Royal Oman Police Coast Guard (ROPCG) was conducted in Muscat. The ICG was represented by Director General S Paramesh, while the ROPCG was represented by Colonel Abdul Aziz Al Jabari, Commander of ROPCG, as noted in a statement from the Indian Embassy in Oman.
Oman serves as a strategic partner for India and plays a vital role in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Arab League, and Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA). The two nations share a strong bond rooted in geography, history, and culture, enjoying warm diplomatic relations.
