New Delhi, Jan 31 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar engaged in discussions with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi in New Delhi on Saturday, covering essential topics such as trade, critical minerals, and regional developments. This meeting highlighted the robust nature of the India-Oman Strategic Partnership.
In a post on the social media platform X, EAM expressed, “It was a pleasure to interact with FM Badr Albusaidi of Oman this morning. Our dialogue on trade, critical minerals, and regional issues showcased the trust and ease of our Strategic Partnership.”
Badr Albusaidi's visit to New Delhi was timed with his attendance at the second India–Arab Foreign Ministers' Meeting (IAFMM).
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) welcomed Oman’s Foreign Minister via X, stating, “His visit will enhance the multifaceted strategic partnership between India and Oman.”
On the preceding day, EAM Jaishankar also met with League of Arab States Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit to explore ways to strengthen cooperation across various sectors.
Post-discussion, EAM shared on X, “A warm meeting with Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit this morning. We had a comprehensive conversation about enhancing our cooperation and discussed recent regional developments.”
Furthermore, EAM Jaishankar held individual meetings with the Foreign Ministers from Comoros, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Palestine, focusing on improving bilateral cooperation and deepening collaborations.
India is hosting the second IAFMM today, which is co-hosted by India and the United Arab Emirates, featuring participation from Foreign Ministers of various Arab League Member States along with the Arab League Secretary General.
This second India-Arab Foreign Ministers Meeting aims to build on existing collaborations and expand partnerships.
It has been a decade since the last Foreign Ministers' meeting, which took place in Bahrain in 2016, where leaders recognized five priority areas for cooperation: economy, energy, education, media, and culture, and recommended a series of initiatives within these domains.
The MEA remarked, “The India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting serves as the highest institutional mechanism driving this partnership, formalized back in March 2002 when India and the League of Arab States (LAS) signed an MoU to institutionalize dialogue.”
