New Delhi, March 5 (NationPress) The External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar engaged in a telephonic dialogue with his Omani counterpart, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, on Thursday, focusing on the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

On March 2, the Indian Embassy in Oman reported the death of an Indian national aboard the oil tanker MKD Vyom, which was allegedly targeted in the Gulf of Oman. The embassy is coordinating with local authorities to ensure the safe and prompt repatriation of Indian nationals present on the vessel.
"The Embassy of India extends heartfelt condolences over the tragic passing of an Indian national on the MKD Vyom. We are closely collaborating with local authorities in Oman to facilitate the safe and immediate return of our nationals aboard the tanker. As per Oman's official news agency, the oil tanker, registered under the Republic of the Marshall Islands, was struck by an Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) approximately 52 nautical miles from the Omani coastline.
The tanker was transporting around 59,463 metric tonnes of cargo, and the attack resulted in a fire and explosion in the main engine room, leading to the death of one Indian crew member.
In conjunction with the Maritime Security Centre, the 21 crew members of the tanker—comprising 16 Indian nationals, four Bangladeshi nationals, and one Ukrainian national—were evacuated via the commercial vessel MV SAND, which is registered in Panama.
