New Delhi, March 3 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in discussions on Tuesday afternoon with two pivotal leaders from the Gulf region, as India maintains its connections with regional governments and other key partners regarding the ongoing unrest in Iran and the Gulf area.

Focus on the welfare and protection of the Indian diaspora as PM Modi speaks with Sultan of Oman and Crown Prince of Kuwait.

During his conversations with Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman and Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah of Kuwait, PM Modi conveyed his apprehensions about recent attacks in both nations and emphasized the importance of the welfare and security of the Indian communities living there.

These essential dialogues occurred as India reiterated its call for dialogue and diplomacy to address the ongoing strife in Iran and the surrounding Gulf region, confirming that it is vigilantly monitoring the changing situation and making decisions that serve national interests.

"We voiced our deep concerns when the conflict in Iran and the Gulf region erupted on February 28, 2026. At that moment, India urged all parties to exercise restraint, prevent escalation, and prioritize civilian safety. Sadly, during the holy month of Ramadan, the situation has worsened significantly," a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted.

The MEA spokesperson highlighted that India is in communication with regional governments and key partners, with PM Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar having held talks with their counterparts.

"Approximately 10 million Indian citizens reside and work in the Gulf region. Their safety and well-being are our top priority. We cannot remain indifferent to any developments that may adversely impact them. Our trade and energy supply chains also traverse this region, making any significant disruption detrimental to the Indian economy. As a country with a substantial workforce globally, India firmly opposes attacks on merchant shipping. Tragically, some Indian nationals have lost their lives or are currently missing due to these recent attacks," the MEA stated.

"In light of this, India strongly emphasizes the necessity for dialogue and diplomacy. We advocate for an immediate end to the conflict, as many lives have already been regrettably lost, and we express our sorrow over this. Indian Embassies and Consulates in the affected regions maintain close contact with Indian nationals and community organizations, issuing regular advisories as needed. They are also providing extensive support to those stranded due to the conflict. Our Embassies and Consulates will continue to proactively address various consular issues arising from this situation," the statement further elaborated.
