Kampala, Oct 13 (NationPress) India took part in the Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) of the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Mid-Term Ministerial held in Kampala on Monday, reaffirming its support for Uganda's leadership within the NAM.
The Indian delegation was led by Secretary (West) Sibi George at the SOM, which was chaired by Uganda's Minister of Foreign Affairs, General Odongo Jeje.
As stated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on X, "Secretary (West) Sibi George leads the Indian delegation at the Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) of the 19th Non-Aligned Movement Mid-Term Ministerial in Kampala, Uganda; presided over by FM General Odongo Jeje of Uganda. India supports Uganda’s leadership of the NAM."
Uganda, as the NAM chair, has emphasized its commitment to unity, collaboration, and mutual global prosperity under the theme 'Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence'.
The Ugandan government shared on X, "Happening now. Uganda hosts the Midterm Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Kampala. As Chair, Uganda renews its call for unity, cooperation, and shared global affluence under the theme 'Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence.'"
Sibi George also engaged with General Odongo Jeje and Uganda's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Oryem Henry Okello during the SOM of the 19th NAM Mid-Term Ministerial in Kampala.
In a post on X, Jaiswal noted, "Secretary (West) Sibi George with FM General Odongo Jeje and MoS Oryem Henry Okello at the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) of the 19th NAM Mid-Term Ministerial in Kampala, Uganda."
Uganda is set to chair the NAM from 2024 for a duration of three years.
Additionally, the Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh is slated to lead the Indian delegation at the 19th Mid-Term Ministerial of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Kampala, Uganda, from October 15-16, as announced by the MEA on Monday. Singh is anticipated to hold discussions with Ugandan leaders and counterparts from other NAM member nations during his visit.
The MEA stated, "Uganda is the Chair of NAM for the period 2024-26. The Mid-Term Ministerial under the theme of 'Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence.' India is a founding member of the movement which unites 121 developing countries on a historically significant platform. India remains steadfast in its commitment to the principles and values of the movement."
