Kampala, Oct 16 (NationPress) The Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, had a significant meeting with Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of Uganda, on Thursday to explore avenues for enhancing the longstanding and multifaceted partnership between the two nations.
Singh is representing India at the commencement ceremony of the 19th Mid-Term Ministerial of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which is taking place in Uganda and revolves around the theme of 'Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence'.
The discussion occurred on the sidelines of the NAM event.
Post-meeting, Singh shared on X, "I had the privilege of meeting Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, and conveyed the personal greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I appreciated his profound insights on further strengthening the traditional and multifaceted partnership between India and Uganda."
Earlier in the day, Singh emphasized New Delhi's commitment to fostering peace and stability in West Asia, reiterating India's long-held position advocating for a negotiated two-State solution.
On X, Singh stated, "I delivered the national statement at the NAM Ministerial Committee on Palestine meeting held in Kampala today. This Committee was established under India's Chairmanship of NAM in 1983. I recalled India's humanitarian support to the people of Palestine and reaffirmed India's historical stance on the negotiated two-State solution in West Asia. India is prepared to contribute towards realizing a peaceful and stable region."
During the 19th NAM Ministerial meeting, Singh also met with Abdoulaye Diop, Mali's Foreign Minister, to discuss the multifaceted bilateral relations between their nations.
Additionally, he met Ali Mohamed Omar, the Somalian State Minister for Foreign Affairs, to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation.
Uganda is set to chair NAM for the period 2024-2026.
Prior to Singh's visit, the Ministry of External Affairs stated, "The Mid-Term Ministerial focuses on the theme of 'Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence'. India, a founding member of NAM, unites 121 developing countries on a platform of historical significance, and remains committed to the principles and values of this movement."
