Did India Hand Over the First Batch of 10 Electric Buses to Mauritius?

Port Louis, Aug 7 (NationPress) The Indian High Commissioner to Mauritius, Anurag Srivastava, has ceremoniously delivered the inaugural batch of 10 electric buses (e-buses) to Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, marking a significant advancement in the collaborative development efforts between New Delhi and Port Louis.

The ceremony occurred on Wednesday at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation in Reduit, a notable emblem of the enduring friendship between India and Mauritius.

Attended by various Mauritian ministers, junior ministers, and esteemed dignitaries, this event symbolizes a key milestone in enhancing the green partnership under the development collaboration of both nations. It also reaffirms the Enhanced Strategic Partnership established during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit in March 2025.

The Indian High Commission in Port Louis shared insights from the event via X, stating, "PM Ramgoolam emphasized the historic State Visit of PM Modi to Mauritius in March and regarded this e-bus initiative as a 'paradigm shift in public transport and a symbol of the unique relationship that has endured over time.'"

The Mauritian Prime Minister underscored the significance of the e-bus project in minimizing emissions, reducing fuel imports, and generating employment in the e-mobility sector. He acknowledged India's contribution to high-profile infrastructure and future-oriented sectors such as the Blue Economy, AI & Technology, and Food & Maritime Security,” the Indian mission reported.

During his address, High Commissioner Srivastava reiterated India's dedication to a "people-centric and sustainable development partnership with Mauritius," describing the buses as "dynamic symbols of our friendship and commitment to a more sustainable planet."

He further detailed India's extensive support for Mauritius's green transition, which includes an 8 MW Solar PV Farm (Henrietta), 100 solar street lights, and a community solar farm in Rodrigues, as mentioned by the Indian High Commission.

During his visit in March, PM Modi engaged in bilateral discussions with PM Ramgoolam, reaffirming their dedication to the Enhanced Strategic Partnership between the two nations, further solidifying diplomatic relations.

Both leaders jointly inaugurated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation in Reduit. This landmark initiative, executed under the India-Mauritius development partnership, highlighted New Delhi's commitment to enhancing capacities within the island nation.

They acknowledged that India has been Mauritius's principal development partner since its independence, contributing significantly to its infrastructure and developmental requirements.

In expressing gratitude for India's assistance in implementing numerous high-profile infrastructure projects, such as the India-Mauritius Metro Express Project, the New Supreme Court Building, the New ENT Hospital, 956 Social Housing Units, and Educational Tablets, the Mauritian Prime Minister emphasized the positive impact of India-aided projects across various sectors, which have benefitted all segments of Mauritian society.
