India and Denmark have agreed to significantly advance bilateral cooperation on micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) development, innovation, and intellectual property (IP), following the fourth meeting of their Joint Working Group (JWG) held in Copenhagen. An official statement from the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises confirmed the development on 1 September 2026.

Key Areas of Discussion

The JWG meeting served as a structured platform for both nations to exchange perspectives on their respective MSME and innovation ecosystems. Talks spanned a broad range of themes including technology adoption, innovation, intellectual property, technology commercialisation, entrepreneurship, and cluster-based MSME development. The two sides also reviewed outcomes from previous rounds of engagement and deliberated on priorities for future collaboration within the existing JWG framework.

Site Visits and Institutional Engagements

The Indian delegation undertook visits to Aarhus University Innovation 'Kitchen' and Agro Food Park, gaining first-hand exposure to Denmark's innovation support infrastructure and business cluster ecosystems. These interactions facilitated an exchange of experiences on mentoring, start-up support, industry-academia linkages, and cluster-based approaches for nurturing entrepreneurs and MSMEs.

The delegation also held discussions with the Danish Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, exchanging views on business development, innovation policy, and the SME ecosystem in Denmark.

Nordic-India Startup Summit 2026

A highlight of the visit was the delegation's participation in the Nordic-India Startup Summit 2026, organised by TechBBQ — one of the leading Nordic start-up events. The summit offered a direct channel to engage with stakeholders across the Nordic start-up and innovation ecosystem and to showcase India's MSME sector as a destination for knowledge exchange and investment.

Manish Prabhat, Ambassador of India to Denmark, lauded the effective functioning of the JWG mechanism and acknowledged the deepening of the India-Denmark partnership. He reaffirmed India's commitment to continued engagement under the JWG framework and encouraged both sides to explore new and complementary areas of cooperation.

The official statement noted that 'the meeting underscored the shared commitment of India and Denmark to promoting innovation and IP-led growth of MSMEs, while strengthening knowledge exchange, institutional linkages and opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.'
