The High Commission of India in Cyprus partnered with the Nicosia Municipality and Let's Do It! Cyprus — the island nation's largest environmental volunteering campaign — for a community clean-up drive at Nicosia's historic centre on 19 September 2026, as part of the Government of India's Seva Pakhwada observance. The initiative was also timed to coincide with World Cleanup Day.

What Happened on the Ground

High Commissioner Manish worked alongside more than 70 volunteers — including students, youth organisations, civil-society groups, and advocacy organisations — during the drive. He interacted with young participants and underlined the importance of collective environmental responsibility, encouraging them to become 'responsible custodians of their city and the environment,' according to the High Commission's post on X.

Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos also joined the initiative, lending civic weight to the campaign. The clean-up culminated at the Home for Cooperation in the Buffer Zone, near the UNFICYP Peace Memorial — a symbolically significant location in a city still divided along ceasefire lines.
