New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) Italian Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday, emphasizing that the two nations are strategic allies, united by a growing and robust friendship.
Tajani expressed that India and Italy will enhance their dedication to fostering peace in Ukraine and the Middle East.
After their discussion, Tajani shared on X, "In New Delhi, I had a very cordial meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Italy and India are countries connected by a blossoming and strong alliance, serving as strategic partners. Our goal is to facilitate greater Indian presence in Italy and vice versa, particularly through the IMEC corridor that connects our nations via Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Together, our governments will bolster our commitment to peace in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Deputy PM Tajani, who also serves as Minister of Foreign Affairs, arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day official visit, marking his second trip this year aimed at enhancing the India-Italy Strategic Partnership.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal warmly welcomed the visiting minister.
"A warm welcome to Italy's Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, on his arrival in New Delhi. This is his second visit to India this year, and his engagements in Delhi and Mumbai will further fortify the India-Italy Strategic Partnership," Jaiswal posted on X.
During his stay in India, Tajani is set to engage in discussions with Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal in Mumbai. He is expected to leave from Mumbai on Friday after concluding his engagements in India.
On November 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni exchanged ideas on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, discussing ways to deepen bilateral connections across various sectors, including trade, investment, defense, innovation, AI, space, and education.
Post-meeting, PM Modi tweeted, "Had a very fruitful meeting with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The India-Italy Strategic Partnership is evolving positively, greatly benefitting our citizens."
In another tweet, PM Modi remarked: "We explored avenues to advance our cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, defense, innovation, AI, space, and education."
India and Italy have also initiated a Joint Initiative for collaboration in combating the financing of terrorism, which is a crucial and timely endeavor that will bolster humanity’s efforts against terrorism and its support networks.
In September, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Tajani on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, where they discussed bilateral relations and developments in the Mediterranean, Middle East, Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacific.
