Johannesburg, Oct 30 (NationPress) Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat engaged in discussions with South Africa's Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, during the 4th G20 Culture Working Group Meeting held in Zimbali, near Durban, on Thursday. He emphasized the dedication of India and South Africa to strengthen their relationship through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focusing on cultural collaboration.
In a message shared on X, Shekhawat remarked, "Engaged in fruitful bilateral discussions with H.E. Mr. Gayton McKenzie, Minister of Sports, Arts & Culture from South Africa, during the 4th G20 Culture Working Group Meeting. India and South Africa share profound historical ties stemming from Mahatma Gandhi's legacy and are determined to enhance our connection through an MoU focused on cultural cooperation."
On the previous day, Shekhawat attended the 4th G20 Cultural Working Group Plenary Meeting under South Africa's G20 Presidency. He affirmed that India remains a champion of international cultural cooperation, encouraging dialogue and showcasing its rich cultural heritage as a foundation for a shared global future.

During the meeting, the participants endorsed the KwaDukuza Declaration on Culture, which presents a comprehensive framework for collaboration in safeguarding cultural heritage, advancing creative industries, and promoting cultural diversity and dialogue among member states.
A statement released by the South African government after the meeting noted, "Today marks the successful conclusion of the 4th G20 Culture Working Group Ministerial Meeting held at Zimbali in the KwaDukuza region of KwaZulu Natal. The meeting culminated in the adoption of the KwaDukuza Declaration on Culture, which establishes a collective framework for cooperation in preserving cultural heritage, nurturing creative industries, and encouraging cultural diversity and dialogue among member nations."
South Africa's Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, who hosted the meeting, praised the collaboration among G20 member states and the acknowledgment of culture as a crucial component of inclusive growth and global harmony.
