Ottawa, Dec 11 (NationPress) In an effort to enhance India-Canada parliamentary relations, Indian High Commissioner to Canada Dinesh K. Patnaik met with Francis Scarpaleggia, the Canadian Speaker of the House of Commons. They explored common democratic values and potential avenues for future collaboration between both nations.
India is also preparing to welcome a delegation led by Speaker Scarpaleggia during the upcoming 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Parliaments of Commonwealth Countries (CSPOC), scheduled for January 2026.
“High Commissioner Dinesh K. Patnaik met with Speaker Francis Scarpaleggia today to discuss the enhancement of India-Canada parliamentary relations. The dialogue was fruitful, focusing on shared democratic ideals and future collaborations. India eagerly awaits the Speaker's delegation at the 28th CSPOC next month,” the Indian High Commission in Ottawa shared on X this Thursday (Indian time).
On Wednesday, Patnaik also had a productive discussion with Lena Metlege Diab, the Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, where both parties sought ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between India and Canada.
The discussions included immigration processes, issues concerning students, and a deeper understanding of their respective systems, highlighting the importance of reinforcing people-to-people connections.
Last week, the Indian High Commissioner held talks with Gary Anandasangaree, the Canadian Minister of Public Safety, focusing on improving security and law enforcement collaboration between the two nations.
“I was honored to meet with Minister Gary Anandasangaree. We discussed our mutual priorities in strengthening security and law enforcement cooperation between India and Canada while exploring new opportunities for collaboration and enhancing our current engagement mechanisms,” Patnaik remarked, as quoted by the Indian High Commission in Ottawa.
Patnaik also visited the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia to further strengthen bilateral partnerships.
During his visit, he met with various leaders from British Columbia, including Raj Chouhan, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Ravi Parmar, Minister of Forests, and Sunita Dhir, Parliamentary Secretary.
Additionally, Patnaik engaged with Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development, and Innovation, alongside Jagrup Brar, Minister of State for Mining and Critical Minerals in British Columbia.
