Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 4 (NationPress) In response to the rising tensions from the escalating US-Israel military actions against Iran, which led to the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, India has set up a dedicated control room in New Delhi to aid its citizens. This initiative comes as Tehran retaliates with strikes aimed at Gulf nations.
As reported by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the control room is operational from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Indian Standard Time) and can be reached via the toll-free number 1800118797 or through landlines at +91-11-23012113, +91-11-23014104, and +91-11-23017905.
Emergency contact numbers for Indian embassies in countries such as Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, and the UAE have also been made available to the public.
Iran's counterattacks have impacted several nations, with missiles and drones being intercepted over Kuwait, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates, leading to temporary closures of airspace and resulting in both military and civilian casualties.
The situation has escalated to a point where US forces have initiated counter-strikes, including naval operations, highlighting one of the most significant confrontations between Washington and Tehran in recent decades.
Earlier on Sunday, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), led by Prime Minister Modi, convened to discuss the air strikes in Iran on February 28 and the resulting escalation in the Middle East, particularly concerning the safety of Indian citizens in the area.
The official statement indicated that the Committee was updated on the air strikes in Iran and the ensuing tensions, which have affected multiple Gulf nations.
"The committee expressed deep concern regarding the safety and security of the vast Indian expatriate community present in the region," the statement noted.
On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced his apprehensions regarding the situation in West Asia, reiterating that India will collaborate closely with regional countries to ensure the safety of its nationals.
PM Modi stated, "India's position regarding ongoing global tensions is resolute. We have consistently advocated for peace and stability, and the call for peace grows stronger when democracies unite."
Addressing security issues in Gulf nations, he remarked, "The present circumstances in West Asia are of significant concern to us. India endorses the resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy. We remain committed to working closely with all countries in the region to safeguard the well-being of all Indian nationals."
