Port of Spain, Sep 9 (NationPress) Reinforcing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dedication to healthcare support in Trinidad and Tobago (T&T), the Indian High Commission in Port of Spain declared that a 50-day Artificial Limb Fitment Camp will take place from October to November, offering complimentary artificial limbs to 800 individuals.
This initiative, set to occur at Divali Nagar in the Caribbean nation, is entirely financed by the Government of India. It will be executed by the NGO Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayta Samiti (BMVSS) in partnership with the Indian mission.
PM Modi first announced this camp during his visit to T&T in July.
The Indian High Commission emphasized that New Delhi remains committed to being at the "forefront in providing developmental aid" to the Caribbean nation.
"The Limb Camp is being organized under the auspices of the Office of the Prime Minister of Trinidad & Tobago and in close cooperation with the National Council of Indian Culture (NCIC). A team of 10 members from BMVSS will be present in T&T for this initiative," it noted.
"Our solidarity, friendship and partnership have been unwavering and will continue into the future," added the Indian mission.
Founded in 1975, BMVSS, also referred to as the Jaipur Foot NGO, is recognized as the world’s largest organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of individuals with lower limb disabilities.
As per the Indian High Commission, BMVSS has successfully rehabilitated over 2.4 million individuals with disabilities in India and 46 developing nations.
The Government of India, in collaboration with BMVSS, initiated the "India for Humanity" program in 2018 to facilitate a series of Jaipur Foot Camps globally.
Through this initiative, the Government of India has provided funding and logistical support for camps in 25 countries, helping over 17,000 individuals with disabilities receive free artificial limbs.
This program has significantly contributed to the physical and socio-economic rehabilitation of disabled persons, enabling them to lead a normal life, as per the Indian High Commission.
The Indian High Commission expressed optimism for the successful implementation of the Limb Camp and the beneficial impact it will have on the lives of the recipients and their families in Trinidad and Tobago.
