What Happened to the Baloch Woman After Pakistani Forces Opened Fire in Panjgur?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Quetta, Dec 10 (NationPress) In a disturbing incident, Pakistani forces executed indiscriminate firing in the Panjgur district of Balochistan, critically wounding a young Baloch woman, as reported by a human rights organization on Wednesday.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) identified the victim as 22-year-old Durdana, who resides in the small village of Sahaky – Balgetar in Panjgur. She sustained serious injuries when the Frontier Constabulary of Pakistan opened fire on December 8.
According to local sources cited by the BYC, Durdana was hit by a bullet while she was preparing dinner in her kitchen.
Her family quickly transported her to the District Headquarters Hospital in Kech for necessary medical aid. However, due to the inadequacy of treatment available there, she was referred to Karachi for more advanced care.
The BYC condemned this act, stating, "This indiscriminate firing by Pakistani forces on local residents has become a regular occurrence. They have established checkpoints in residential areas, where they monitor with drone cameras and sometimes resort to open fire. This is a blatant violation of the fundamental rights of citizens and an unjust application of force on local residents across remote areas of Balochistan."
Additionally, the Baloch Women Forum (BWF) expressed outrage over the enforced disappearance of 22-year-old Rahima Baloch and her 18-year-old brother Zubair Rahim, who were taken by Pakistani forces during an unlawful raid in Zahoor Colony, Dalbandin city, on the night of December 8.
The BWF reported that since their abduction, there has been no information regarding the siblings. Local community members have blocked the primary road in protest, demanding the immediate release of Rahima and Zubair, as well as accountability for this "criminal and unethical act."
"These unlawful raids, victimization, and other human rights violations, regardless of gender, age, or region, have become commonplace practices of the state, which we vehemently oppose and resist through every available channel," the BWF declared.
"We stand against any actions, no matter who commits them, that violate fundamental human rights, particularly those that deliberately include Baloch women in the cycle of severe oppression, which we believe is akin to a violation of Baloch culture," they added.
The BWF criticized the ongoing atrocities in Balochistan and demanded the swift, safe, and unconditional release of Rahima and Zubair, calling for severe punishment for the security personnel involved in this "heinous crime."
