Investigation Launched by Turkish Authorities into Fake US Dollar Circulation

Istanbul, Nov 28 (NationPress) Turkish authorities have initiated an inquiry on Thursday after reports surfaced regarding the circulation of counterfeit US dollars totaling 600 million in the marketplace.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has begun an investigation into the manufacture and distribution of these fraudulent banknotes, according to the Hurriyet Daily.
In Istanbul, numerous currency exchange establishments have ceased the purchase of 50 and 100-dollar bills due to allegations that counterfeit notes, allegedly printed overseas, are in circulation within the city, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
The Turkish Central Bank released a statement on Thursday, asserting, "In our ongoing efforts to combat counterfeit banknotes, we are collaborating closely with pertinent judicial authorities."
The Banks Association of Turkey remarked that "essential inspections and updates are being conducted on currency counting machines, counterfeit detection systems, and ATMs currently in operation."
As reported by Hurriyet, during operations carried out across two districts on the European side of Istanbul, authorities confiscated 3.6 million euros (approximately 3.8 million dollars) worth of counterfeit currency.
