Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tehran, April 7 (NationPress) Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei expressed his sorrow over the assassination of a high-ranking general from the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), declaring that “assassinations and crimes” against Iranian leadership will not derail the nation’s progress.
In his written message, Khamenei honored Majid Khademi, the head of the IRGC's Intelligence Protection Organization, for his years of “quiet contributions in the security, intelligence, and defense sectors” of Iran, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Khamenei also attributed the shift of Israel and the United States towards “terrorism and assassination” to their “repeated failures.” Khademi was killed in Tehran on Monday during an airstrike for which Israel has claimed responsibility.
He conveyed his condolences to Khademi's family, comrades, and fellow commanders of the IRGC's Intelligence Organization.
Khademi took the helm of the intelligence organization in June of the previous year, following the death of Mohammad Kazemi, the former chief, during the 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel.
Prior to this role, Khademi was the leader of the IRGC's Intelligence Protection Organization.
In related news, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi vehemently condemned a US and Israeli attack on the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, which caused significant damage to its information technology center and a gas substation near the university's mosque.
On Sunday, Iran's army announced it had targeted petrochemical industries and petroleum storage facilities in southern Israel, alongside American equipment depots, satellite communication units, and military personnel in a base located in Kuwait.
On February 28, coordinated assaults by Israel and the United States on Tehran and several Iranian cities resulted in the deaths of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with prominent military leaders and civilians. In retaliation, Iran launched a series of missile and drone strikes aimed at US and Israeli bases and assets across the Middle East.
