Tehran, March 26 (NationPress) Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has stated that various messages have been sent between Iran and the United States via intermediaries in recent days, while emphasizing that Tehran has not engaged in any discussions with Washington since the onset of the US and Israeli assaults on the nation at the end of last month.

In an interview with state-run IRIB TV on Wednesday (local time), he remarked, "In the past few days, the American side commenced sending various messages through multiple intermediaries. When these messages are conveyed to us through friendly nations, and we respond by restating our positions or issuing the necessary warnings, this does not constitute negotiation or dialogue. It is simply an exchange of messages via our allies, where we have reiterated our fundamental positions," Araghchi explained.

He elaborated that in some communications, Iran cautioned the United States against attacking its infrastructure, which led to Washington retracting its warning to strike Iranian power facilities within 48 hours, according to reports from the Xinhua news agency.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran does not seek war, declaring, "We did not initiate this conflict and desire an end to it, but on our own terms to prevent any recurrence."

He further noted that Iran is not interested in a ceasefire, as it would only perpetuate the same 'vicious cycle' of negotiations, warfare, and truces, asserting, "We aim to conclude this conflict based on our terms."

According to Araghchi, Iran's current strategy is to persist in its resistance and protect the nation, with no plans in place for negotiations.

Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, he mentioned that the waterway is recognized as part of the territorial waters of Iran and Oman, and that Iran is exploring "new arrangements for secure passage through the strait."

The remarks from the Iranian foreign minister followed comments by US President Donald Trump, who claimed that Tehran is negotiating with the United States and desires a deal to conclude the war.

On February 28, Israel and the United States executed joint strikes on Tehran and several other Iranian cities, resulting in the deaths of Iran's then Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with senior military officials and civilians. In retaliation, Iran launched a series of missile and drone assaults targeting Israel and US bases and interests across the Middle East, while imposing strict control over the Strait of Hormuz, preventing safe passage for vessels linked to Israel and the United States.

Point of View

It's crucial to recognize the gravity of the ongoing situation between Iran and the United States. The exchanges of messages indicate a complex diplomatic landscape, yet the lack of direct talks raises concerns about escalating tensions. Upholding a nation-first approach, we must remain vigilant and report developments that could affect not only regional stability but also global peace.
