Tehran, April 27 (NationPress) Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi expressed his pleasure with the recent round of indirect discussions between Iran and the United States.
He shared these insights on Saturday when addressing reporters after the third round of indirect negotiations that took place in Muscat, the capital of Oman. Both delegations were led by Araghchi and US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, focusing on Tehran's nuclear program and the lifting of Washington’s sanctions, as reported by Xinhua news agency and Iran's official news agency IRNA.
"I am pleased with both the formation and the speed of the talks," Araghchi noted, emphasizing that the negotiations indicate a positive and satisfactory process.
"The atmosphere is encouraging, and both parties have shown seriousness. I believe the other side is also willing to engage. We are fully committed. While I remain cautiously optimistic about reaching an agreement, I hold hope," the minister stated.
He indicated that the discussions had progressed to more detailed and technical matters during this third round of talks.
"We have exchanged our viewpoints in writing multiple times. Due to the technical nature of indirect discussions, precision is essential, thus positions were mainly communicated in writing," he explained.
Araghchi pointed out the evident seriousness from both sides, which has fostered an atmosphere of hope regarding the talks' progress.
He disclosed that the fourth round of negotiations is scheduled for next Saturday, involving experts and senior negotiators, with Oman expected to provide more information shortly.
The initial round of indirect talks took place in Oman on April 12, followed by the second round in Italy on April 19.
Prior to the latest negotiations, US President Donald Trump told Time magazine, "I believe we will reach a deal with Iran," while reiterating his warning of a potential "war with Iran" if discussions fail.
In response, Iran has insisted that all sanctions must be lifted in a manner that benefits the Iranian populace, stressing that Tehran will not compromise on its right to enrich uranium, which it categorizes as a red line.
