Muscat, April 20 (NationPress) Oman's Foreign Ministry has confirmed that Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff have reached an agreement to advance to the next stage of negotiations focused on establishing a fair, lasting, and binding agreement regarding Tehran's nuclear matters.
Earlier today, Araghchi and Witkoff engaged in indirect discussions in Rome, facilitated by Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, according to a report by Xinhua news agency.
An official spokesperson from the Omani Foreign Ministry emphasized that open dialogue and clear communication are vital for achieving a "mutually credible agreement and understanding for the benefit of all involved, both regionally and internationally."
It was also determined that the subsequent round of discussions will take place in Muscat in the near future.
Albusaidi expressed gratitude on the social media platform X for the collaborative spirit exhibited by both parties.
"I extend my appreciation to Iranian Foreign Minister Dr Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Presidential Envoy Mr Steve Witkoff for their highly constructive engagement in today’s discussions. These negotiations are gaining traction, and even the improbable now seems achievable," he stated.
The second round of nuclear discussions between the United States and Iran commenced in Italy on Saturday, where both parties deliberated on Tehran's civilian nuclear program and the lifting of American sanctions against the nation.
These talks, led by the Iranian Foreign Minister and the US President's Special Envoy to the Middle East, are being hosted by Oman's Embassy in Rome.
On Friday, during a joint press conference in Moscow with his Russian counterpart, Araghchi remarked that Tehran would approach the Saturday discussions with seriousness and strong determination, despite having "serious doubts" regarding the other party's intentions.
