Iran's Warning: Gulf Hotels Hosting US Troops at Risk
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tehran, March 27 (NationPress) Iran has delivered an "ultimatum" to hotel proprietors in Bahrain and the UAE, cautioning that accommodating US military personnel could render their establishments legitimate military objectives, as reported by the semi-official Fars news agency.
According to Fars, US forces have sought shelter in regional hotels subsequent to Iranian missile assaults and coordinated efforts with allied militant factions targeting American military assets throughout the Middle East. This warning extends to any establishment accommodating foreign military personnel and will take effect immediately should such actions persist, as reported by Xinhua.
The report further indicated that US forces have set up a presence at civilian locations across the region, including a logistics hub near Beirut's old airport and advisory operations at notable venues such as Damascus' Republic Palace, the Four Seasons, and Sheraton hotels. This week, it was reported that US Marines were relocated to Djibouti International Airport through Istanbul and Sofia.
Earlier on Thursday, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi cautioned hotels in Gulf Arab nations against permitting US military personnel, alleging that these soldiers have abandoned their bases and are utilizing civilian sites for concealment.
"From the initiation of this conflict, US soldiers have fled military installations in the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) to seek refuge in hotels and offices, employing GCC citizens as human shields," Araghchi stated on the social media platform X. He drew parallels to hotels in the United States, which reportedly deny bookings to officers who could jeopardize guests' safety, urging Gulf hotels to implement similar policies.
On February 28, Israel and the United States executed joint strikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities, resulting in the deaths of Iran's then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, high-ranking military officials, and civilians. In retaliation, Iran launched missile and drone offensives against Israel and US bases while tightening its control over the Strait of Hormuz, blocking vessels associated with Israel and the United States.
