Iran's Oil Minister Assumes OPEC Presidency for 2025

Tehran, Dec 11 (NationPress) Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad has been chosen as the rotating president of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) for the year 2025.
OPEC confirmed this announcement through a press release on its official website, expressing gratitude to Marcel Abeke, Gabon's Minister of Petroleum, for his leadership as the rotating president in 2024, as reported by the Xinhua news agency citing Iran's official news outlet IRNA.
As per IRNA, the newly elected OPEC president, Paknejad, stressed his dedication to utilizing all available resources to maintain the organization's unity, solidarity, and advancement.
The OPEC conference has also extended the term of Haitham Al Ghais as secretary general for an additional three years, starting from August 1, 2025, according to the OPEC press statement.
Iran will officially take over the presidency of the organization on January 1, 2025. The presidency of OPEC rotates each year among the member nations.
OPEC is a permanent intergovernmental body comprising 12 oil-exporting developing nations that coordinates and harmonizes the petroleum policies of its member states.
