Israel to Shut Down Embassy in Ireland Citing 'Severe Anti-Israel Policies': Foreign Minister

Jerusalem, Dec 15 (NationPress) Israel declared on Sunday its intention to close its embassy in Ireland, pointing to the Irish government's severe anti-Israel policies.
In an official statement, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar criticized Ireland for its actions and rhetoric against Israel, which he claimed stem from the delegitimization and demonization of the Jewish state, along with double standards, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.
"Ireland has crossed every red line in its relationship with Israel," he stated.
He further remarked that "Israel will allocate its resources to enhance bilateral ties with nations globally, guided by priorities that consider the attitudes and actions of these nations towards Israel."
In a statement on social media platform X, Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris described the decision as "deeply regrettable," asserting, "I completely reject the claim that Ireland is anti-Israel. Ireland is pro-peace, pro-human rights, and pro-international law."
He emphasized that "Ireland seeks a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine to coexist in peace and security," adding, "Ireland will always advocate for human rights and international law. Nothing will divert us from that."
Israel had previously recalled its ambassador from Dublin in May after Ireland officially recognized Palestine as a state. Nevertheless, Ireland has not recalled its envoy from Israel.
Recently, Ireland's cabinet expressed support for South Africa's case at the International Court of Justice, which charges Israel with "genocide."
