Palestinian Authority President and Irish Prime Minister Hold Phone Discussion on Gaza

Ramallah, December 24 (NationPress) Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris engaged in a telephone dialogue to address the latest events unfolding in the Palestinian territories, according to the Palestinian official news agency WAFA.
During the discussion on Monday, Abbas underscored the critical need for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2735 to halt the violence in Gaza, facilitate humanitarian assistance to the affected region, and guarantee the total withdrawal of Israeli forces.
He expressed gratitude to Ireland and its citizens for their unwavering support for peace and stability in the area, along with their dedication to resolving the Palestinian issue based on the two-State solution, as reported by Xinhua.
Abbas further acknowledged Ireland's support for the Palestinian populace, which encompasses Ireland's recognition of the State of Palestine, backing for the Palestinian government, contributions to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, and initiatives to host injured children from Gaza.
On his part, Harris conveyed his heartfelt condolences and profound sorrow regarding the substantial loss of Palestinian lives, advocating for an immediate ceasefire and emphasizing the importance of adhering to international law and legitimacy.
Harris reiterated Ireland's commitment to enhancing its relationships with the State of Palestine and its citizens, as well as advancing cooperation to promote peace and stability in the region.
He also reaffirmed Ireland's ongoing support for the Palestinian people in establishing their state institutions and ensuring their full rights under international law.
Additionally, Israel announced on December 15 that it would close its embassy in Ireland, citing the Irish government's extreme anti-Israel policies as the reason for this decision.
