Israel to Shut Down Embassy in Ireland Citing 'Severe Anti-Israeli Policies': Foreign Minister

Jerusalem, Dec 15 (NationPress) Israel declared on Sunday its intention to close the embassy in Ireland, citing the Irish government's extreme anti-Israeli policies.
In an official statement, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar criticized Ireland for its actions and rhetoric against Israel, asserting that these are rooted in the delegitimization and demonization of the Jewish state, along with a practice of double standards, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
"Ireland has crossed every red line in its relationship with Israel," he stated.
He further mentioned that Israel will focus its resources on enhancing bilateral relations with nations globally, considering their attitudes and actions towards Israel as a significant factor.
Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris expressed in a post on social media platform X that the decision is a deeply regrettable one, stating, "I completely reject the claim that Ireland is anti-Israel. Ireland stands for peace, human rights, and international law."
He emphasized that Ireland advocates for a two-state solution allowing both Israel and Palestine to coexist in peace and security, adding, "Ireland will consistently uphold human rights and international law. Nothing will divert the country from this commitment."
Earlier in May, Israel had recalled its ambassador from Dublin following Ireland's formal recognition of Palestine as a state; however, Ireland has not withdrawn its envoy from Israel.
Recently, Ireland's cabinet expressed its support for South Africa's case at the International Court of Justice, which accuses Israel of genocide.
