Moscow, Feb 27 (NationPress) Russia stands firmly against trade wars globally, as they adversely impact all nations, local media reported on Thursday, citing Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
"We would not like to see numerous trade wars around the world. Ultimately, this will negatively influence all countries," Peskov stated, referencing the United States' plans to impose a 25% tariff on products from the European Union.
The spokesperson emphasized that Russia is currently concentrating on its friendly nations, particularly its BRICS partners.
"There, we develop our frameworks that align with both our interests and those of our partners. We aim to avoid tariff conflicts in that arena," Peskov continued.
Additionally, the Russian government has enacted a decree banning motor gasoline exports from March 1 to August 31, according to a government press release issued on Thursday.
This decree allows for exemptions for shipments directly conducted by fuel producers.
The government indicated that this measure aims to stabilize the domestic fuel market, bolster the oil refining sector, and prevent illegal gasoline exports.
A similar ban was enforced in 2023 from September 21 to November 17 and was reinstated in 2024 for an initial term of March 1 to August 31. These restrictions were lifted early in May after the domestic market was stabilized but were reintroduced in September, with an expiration set for February 28.
In other news, the Kremlin has cautioned against anticipating any swift resolutions to the Ukraine situation, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
"No one anticipates quick and easy resolutions to the Ukraine issue," Peskov was quoted by TASS news agency on Thursday.
When inquired whether the Kremlin expects Washington to address Russia's fundamental concerns during discussions on Ukraine, Peskov remarked that no easy solutions are anticipated due to the complexity and prolonged neglect of the matter.
Nevertheless, he acknowledged that Moscow perceives US President Donald Trump as willing to listen to others.
Should Russia and the United States maintain their political will and readiness to engage in dialogue, progress through discussions may be achievable, the spokesperson concluded.
