Kremlin Aims to Mitigate Effects of New US Sanctions

Moscow, Jan 13 (NationPress) Russia will implement strategies to lessen the impact of recent US sanctions aimed at the country's energy sector, stated Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Monday.

The United States enacted sanctions on over 200 entities and individuals associated with Russia's energy sector last Friday, categorizing more than 180 vessels as blocked assets.

According to Peskov, “In today’s world, it has been repeatedly proven that... natural routes, energy supply pathways cannot simply be severed,” further emphasizing that Russia will explore alternative solutions.

While discussing the sanctions targeting high-ranking officials from Russia's state atomic energy firm Rosatom, Peskov mentioned that the company will continue its global operations, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

“It is evident that the United States will persist in attempting to weaken our companies through non-competitive methods. However... we anticipate that we will be able to counter this,” Peskov stated.

Last week, Peskov indicated that Russian President Vladimir Putin is receptive to possible discussions with US President-elect Donald Trump without any preconditions.

Peskov clarified that no specific prerequisites are needed for upcoming discussions, asserting that both leaders must exhibit a mutual willingness and political determination to address existing issues through dialogue.

He also confirmed that Putin is amenable to future meetings with Trump, with planning set to commence once Trump assumes office.

“We observe that Trump has also shown his readiness to resolve issues through dialogue, and we welcome this,” Peskov remarked.

Peskov reiterated that Russia's position regarding Ukraine, as articulated by Putin in July, remains unequivocal and steady. He added that Moscow's stance will not alter in any prospective talks between Putin and Trump.

Peskov emphasized that Putin would be open to engagement if Trump's political will persists following his inauguration.

The Kremlin spokesperson noted that there are no current requests for communication from the US side; however, it would be prudent to wait until Trump is inaugurated.

During a recent press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, President-elect Trump acknowledged awareness of the Russian leader's interest in meeting, stating that such a meeting would be appropriate only after his inauguration.

Trump expressed that he can “comprehend the Russians' sentiments” regarding President Joe Biden allegedly reneging on a “deal” concerning Ukraine's NATO membership.
