London, April 6 (NationPress) The Labour Party of the UK has announced the suspension of its Member of Parliament Dan Norris following his arrest on suspicion of rape, child sex offences, child abduction, and misconduct in a public office, as reported by local media.

Norris serves as the Mayor of the West of England in addition to being an MP. This suspension indicates that Norris, who represents North East Somerset and Hanham, has also had the party whip withdrawn, preventing him from serving as a Labour MP in the House of Commons.

A party spokesman confirmed his arrest on Saturday night, stating, "Dan Norris MP was immediately suspended by the Labour Party upon being informed of his arrest. We cannot comment further while the police investigation is ongoing."

Avon and Somerset Police are currently investigating multiple allegations against a man in his sixties.

The police reported that "most of the offences are alleged to have occurred in the 2000s," while also looking into a rape allegation from the 2020s.

"In December 2024, we received a referral from another police force regarding alleged non-recent child sex offences against a girl," the statement from Avon and Somerset Police noted.

"Most of the offences are alleged to have occurred in the 2000s, but we're also investigating an alleged offence of rape from the 2020s. An investigation led by officers within Operation Bluestone, our dedicated team for rape and serious sexual assault, is currently ongoing and at an early stage," it further added.

"The victim is being supported and provided with access to any necessary specialist help or assistance."

A man in his sixties was arrested on Friday (April 4) on suspicion of sexual offences against a girl (under the Sexual Offences Act 1956), rape (under the Sexual Offences Act 2003), child abduction, and misconduct in a public office.

He has been released on conditional bail as investigations continue. This remains an active and sensitive inquiry, and the police have respectfully requested that the public refrain from speculating on the circumstances to allow their inquiries to proceed without disruption.

Earlier media reports have indicated that such issues within the parliamentary Labour Party have marred Prime Minister Keir Starmer's initial months in office, with one MP already resigning after being convicted for assault.
