Lebanon Submits New Complaint to UNSC Regarding Israeli Violations of Ceasefire

Beirut, Dec 24 (NationPress) The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants has lodged a formal complaint with the UN Security Council (UNSC) through the country’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, addressing Israel's continuous violations of the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon.
The ministry announced on social media platform X that from November 27 to December 22, Israel conducted over 816 land and air assaults on Lebanon, targeting border villages, planting explosive devices in homes, demolishing residential areas, and obstructing roads.
These violations hinder Lebanon's efforts to uphold the provisions of UN Resolution 1701, impede the deployment of the Lebanese army in the southern region, and pose a significant threat to international endeavors aimed at fostering regional security and stability, as stated in the complaint reported by Xinhua news agency.
Lebanon has persistently exhibited remarkable restraint and cooperation to prevent a return to “the hell of war,” urging the UN Security Council to adopt a decisive stance regarding Israel’s violations and to compel it to adhere to its commitments.
The Lebanese government also called for enhanced support for the UN Interim Force in Lebanon and the Lebanese army to safeguard Lebanon's sovereignty and assist in restoring stability.
A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah was established on November 27, concluding the confrontations that began on October 8, 2023.
Despite this agreement, multiple allegations of ceasefire violations have surfaced from both parties. The Israeli army has persisted in executing strikes in Lebanon, albeit at a notably reduced intensity, with some assaults resulting in casualties in southern and eastern Lebanon.
In retaliation, Hezbollah launched munitions into border regions once in early December, characterizing these actions as a response to the ongoing Israeli strikes.
