Dhaka, Aug 5 (NationPress) In a troubling case of violence in Bangladesh, a woman has come forward alleging that her family's brutal assault and murder were orchestrated by individuals connected to Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, a local advisor in the interim government. This shocking revelation was reported by local media.
The tragic events transpired on July 3 in Cumilla district, where Ruma Akhter sustained stab wounds during the assault, while her mother, Roksana Akter Rubi, along with her siblings, Taspiya Jonaki and Md Russel, were brutally killed in broad daylight.
In a press conference held in Dhaka on Monday, Ruma urged for the arrest of Asif Mahmud's father, Billal Master, whom she accuses of being complicit in the murders.
Ruma has also filed a complaint at the Bangra Bazar Police Station, naming 33 individuals, in addition to 25 other unnamed suspects.
“On the day of the murders, we attempted to contact the police by calling 999 numerous times, but they failed to respond. They only arrived after the violence had occurred,” Ruma stated, as reported by The Daily Star.
According to her, the conflict with their neighbors began due to a dispute over a construction project. She explained that local union parishad chairman, Shimul Billah, sought the contract, but her family declined.
Ruma further accused Shimul of attempting to extort money from them and issuing death threats when they refused to comply.
She claims that Shimul, allegedly involved in the homicides of her family, has not been apprehended due to his connections with Billal Hossain.
Contrarily, the police have stated that a mob executed Ruma's family members due to their supposed involvement in drug dealing.
Ruma dismissed these accusations, asserting that her mother had contested in the union parishad chairman election twice but was denied victory due to her affiliation with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). She believes her rivals falsely implicated her family in a drug case out of jealousy.
Meanwhile, Asif Mahmud responded on social media, labeling the allegations as “fabricated narratives.”
