Maseru, July 21 (NationPress) During his ongoing multi-nation official tour of Africa, Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita engaged in discussions with Lesotho's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Lejone Mpotjoana on enhancing the multifaceted bilateral relationship.
Earlier that day, Margherita also interacted with the thriving Indian diaspora in this landlocked nation of Southern Africa, acknowledging their significant role in fostering people-to-people connections and cultural ties between the two nations.
"I am delighted to connect with the vibrant Indian community in Lesotho. I appreciate their warm reception and their efforts in strengthening the cultural and interpersonal links between India and Lesotho," Margherita shared on X.
On Sunday, Margherita received a warm welcome from Thabang Lekhela, the Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, upon his arrival in Maseru. He reached Lesotho after a fruitful visit to Eswatini.
"Just arrived in the city of Maseru, warmly welcomed by Thabang Lekhela, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Relations of Lesotho. I am eager to engage with the leadership to further enhance our bilateral relations," the Minister posted on X.
During his stay, Margherita is also set to pay a courtesy visit to King Letsie III and Prime Minister Samuel Matekane.
In addition to discussions with Mpotjoana, he will hold bilateral meetings with several key ministers, including those overseeing information, communications, science, technology, innovation, education, and labor.
This ministerial visit to the Kingdom of Lesotho marks a significant milestone, occurring after a decade since the first-ever ministerial visit from India to Lesotho by Dr. Mahesh Sharma on July 9, 2015, as a special envoy of the Prime Minister to deliver invitations for the 3rd India-Africa Forum Summit to the Lesotho government leadership, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The Minister is also scheduled to travel to South Africa starting July 23.
This visit is part of India’s broader diplomatic strategy with African nations aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation, exploring new partnership avenues, and representing India at the upcoming G20 Development Ministerial Meetings (DMM) in South Africa.
