Ministerial Conference in Egypt Aims to Rally Support for Gaza

Cairo, Dec 2 (NationPress) A ministerial conference commenced on Monday in Cairo to seek regional and international backing for the beleaguered Gaza and ease the hardships faced by the Palestinian populace.

The gathering is hosted under the auspices of the Egyptian President and involves the participation of 103 delegations from various nations, international organizations, and financial institutions, as noted by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), addressed the conference, stating that "UNRWA has maintained the Palestinian identity since its inception and operates in accordance with international law to safeguard the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people."

He emphasized that safe and effective conditions must be established to facilitate ongoing humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip, calling for an emergency response and a political resolution to terminate the dire situation in Gaza, as reported by Xinhua.

Palestinian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Mustafa remarked that since the onset of the Israeli aggression, Egypt has consistently supported the Palestinian cause and made earnest attempts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Additionally, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty condemned the unlawful prohibition of UNRWA operations, which he described as an unacceptable disregard for the international community and its institutions.

In October, the Israeli parliament enacted a law banning UNRWA from functioning within its territory.
