PM Anwar Ibrahim and I are journeying to the community event in Kuala Lumpur," PM Modi shared on X, along with a photograph showcasing both leaders traveling together to the event venue in the same vehicle after arriving from the airport.
Just prior to this, Prime Minister Modi was warmly greeted by PM Anwar Ibrahim at the airport, marking the start of his visit aimed at reinforcing bilateral relations and enhancing the 'Comprehensive Strategic Partnership' between their countries.
"Landed in Kuala Lumpur. I am profoundly moved by the warm welcome from my friend, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, at the airport. I eagerly anticipate our discussions to further solidify the bonds of friendship between India and Malaysia," stated PM Modi.
At the airport, jubilant children waved both the tricolor and the Malaysian flag to welcome the Prime Minister.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi articulated that his visit intends to tighten defense and security links while furthering economic and innovation partnerships.
This marks his third visit to this Southeast Asian nation and his first since the elevation of the India-Malaysia relationship to a 'Comprehensive Strategic Partnership' in August 2024.
In his departure statement, PM Modi remarked, "The historical connections between India and Malaysia have witnessed steady growth in recent years. I anticipate engaging with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and further advancing our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership."
"We aim to deepen our defense and security ties, bolster our economic and innovation partnership, and extend our collaboration into new areas," he added.
PM Modi also expressed his enthusiasm to meet the Indian diaspora in Malaysia, describing it as a "living bridge" between the two nations.
"With nearly three million members, they constitute one of the largest Indian diasporas globally. Their significant contributions to Malaysia's development and their role as a living bridge between our two countries lay a strong foundation for our long-standing friendship," he remarked.
PM Modi plans to engage in bilateral discussions with his Malaysian counterpart and will also interact with members of the Indian community, along with representatives from industry and business, as per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The 10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum is also scheduled to coincide with the Prime Minister's visit.
