Kuala Lumpur, Feb 7 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi was warmly greeted by his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, upon his arrival in Kuala Lumpur for a two-day visit focused on fortifying the diplomatic relationship and boosting the 'Comprehensive Strategic Partnership' between India and Malaysia.
At the airport, eager children waved the tricolour alongside the Malaysian flag in a joyous welcome.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi shared that his visit aims to strengthen the defence and security frameworks, while also enhancing economic and innovation collaborations.
This marks his third trip to the Southeast Asian country and the first since the elevation of the India-Malaysia relationship to a 'Comprehensive Strategic Partnership' in August 2024.
In his pre-departure statement, Modi remarked, "The historic relationship between India and Malaysia has shown consistent growth in recent years. I am keenly anticipating my discussions with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to further our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership."
"Our focus will include deepening defence and security ties, expanding economic and innovation partnerships, and exploring new collaborative domains," he articulated.
Modi also expressed a strong desire to connect with the Indian diaspora in Malaysia, referring to it as a "living bridge" linking the two nations.
"With nearly three million individuals, they represent one of the largest Indian diasporas globally. Their significant contributions to Malaysia's advancement and their role as a living bridge between our two countries lay a robust foundation for our longstanding friendship," he added.
The Prime Minister is set to engage in bilateral discussions with his Malaysian counterpart and interact with members of the Indian community, as well as business and industry representatives, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Additionally, the 10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum is scheduled to coincide with the Prime Minister's visit.
