New Delhi, Feb 7 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday that his upcoming trip to Malaysia will focus on strengthening the defence and security cooperation between the two nations while also advancing their economic and innovation collaborations.
PM Modi commenced a two-day journey to Malaysia at the invitation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. This marks his third visit to the Southeast Asian country and the first since the India-Malaysia bilateral ties were upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in August 2024.
In his statement before departure, the Prime Minister expressed, "The historical connection between India and Malaysia has made significant strides in recent years. I am eager for my discussions with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to further our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership."
He added, "Our focus will be on deepening our defence and security ties, boosting our economic and innovation partnerships, and exploring new areas of collaboration."
PM Modi also conveyed his enthusiasm to connect with the Indian community in Malaysia, referring to it as a "living bridge" that links the two countries.
"With nearly three million individuals, they constitute one of the largest Indian diasporas globally. Their significant contributions to Malaysia's development and their role as a 'living bridge' between our nations strengthen our historical friendship," he said.
The Prime Minister is set to engage in bilateral talks with his Malaysian counterpart and meet with members of the Indian community, along with representatives from industry and business, as per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
During his visit, the 10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum will also be convened.
"The ties between India and Malaysia are rooted in historical, civilizational, and cultural connections. The relationship is further bolstered by the presence of a 2.9 million-strong Indian diaspora in Malaysia, the third largest globally," a statement from the MEA noted.
"The India-Malaysia relationship is diverse and expanding. PM Modi's forthcoming visit presents an opportunity for both leaders to evaluate the entire spectrum of bilateral cooperation, including trade, investment, defence, security, maritime cooperation, digital and financial technology, energy, healthcare, education, culture, tourism, and people-to-people connections, while also charting the course for future collaboration for mutual benefit," it continued.
