Today, Malaysia houses the second-largest Indian-origin population globally. Our civilizational bonds are intertwined with a collective cultural heritage and democratic principles."
PM Modi recognized the Malaysian Prime Minister's "significant contributions" in revitalizing India-Malaysia relations over recent years.
He remarked, "Our collaborations in energy, infrastructure, and manufacturing have strengthened. Investments in the digital economy, biotech, and IT have surged, while tourism and interpersonal connections have flourished. Inspired by these successes, we aim to accelerate our partnership further."
PM Modi highlighted that security cooperation will be enhanced through closer collaboration in counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, and maritime security.
He declared, "We will also expand our defense cooperation significantly."
In areas such as AI and digital technologies, he noted that India and Malaysia will further their partnership in semiconductors, health, and food security.
"Today's CEO forum has unveiled new prospects for trade and investment. We will forge a pathway to economic transformation through strategic trust," he conveyed.
Regarding terrorism, PM Modi remarked, "While we will support all peacekeeping endeavors, our position on terrorism remains resolute—no double standards and no compromise. I commend your (Malaysian PM Ibrahim) dedication to strengthening India-Malaysia relations. I am hopeful that together we will work towards the goals of a Prosperous Malaysia and a Viksit Bharat."
He referred to the Indian diaspora in Malaysia as a "living bridge" uniting the two nations.
"Yesterday, I had the privilege of meeting the Indian diaspora in Malaysia. My friend PM Anwar Ibrahim's presence elevated the significance of this gathering. This living bridge of 3 million people represents a tremendous force. Initiatives aimed at their welfare will provide a humanitarian dimension to our relations," he stated.
He also mentioned initiatives like the Social Security Agreement to protect Indian workers in Malaysia, a free e-visa, and a UPI digital interface to enhance tourism in Malaysia, all of which will "simplify the lives of citizens from both nations."
"Any partnership is successful when its benefits reach the people directly," the Prime Minister stated.
PM Modi acknowledged the interest in the Tamil language in Malaysia, stating, "The shared passion for the Tamil language connects India and Malaysia. The vibrant presence of Tamil culture is evident in Malaysian education, media, and cultural life. I am confident that with today's Audio Visual Agreement, film and music, particularly Tamil cinema, will foster closer ties between our hearts."
He emphasized that the Indo-Pacific region is becoming a "hub of global growth", stating, "We are committed, along with ASEAN, to fostering development, peace, and stability across the Indo-Pacific. India prioritizes ASEAN centrality."
"I once again congratulate Malaysia on its successful ASEAN leadership. With the support of friendly nations like Malaysia, India will continue to strengthen its relations with ASEAN. We have agreed to expedite the review of the ASEAN-India trade agreements," he added.
Earlier, both leaders engaged in delegation-level discussions, exploring avenues to enhance bilateral relations across various sectors, including defense and security.
PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya.
