Kathmandu, April 18 (NationPress) The foundation stone for the construction of a school building, financed by the Government of India at a project cost of Nepalese Rs 28.10 million, was ceremonially laid in the Morang district of Nepal on Friday.

India's grant, part of the 'Nepal-India Development Cooperation', is designated for the construction of a triple-storied building for Shree Panchayat Secondary School along with other essential facilities in Sundarharaicha Municipality, Morang district.

The ceremonial stone-laying was conducted by Nepal's Minister of Social Development for Koshi Province, Panchakarna Rai, Sundarharaicha Municipality Mayor Kedar Prasad Guragain, and Second Secretary at the Embassy of India, Garima Nautiyal.

Attendees included political figures, government officials, social advocates, teachers, students, and parents.

This initiative is categorized as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP), implemented through the Sundarharaicha Municipality.

Officials from Nepal, along with the school's management and other partners, expressed gratitude for the developmental support provided by India to the people of Nepal.

They are optimistic that the new infrastructure will enhance educational opportunities for students at Shree Panchayat Secondary School in Morang, fostering a better learning environment and contributing to the overall advancement of the region's education sector.

Since 2003, India has initiated over 573 HICDPs in Nepal across various sectors, successfully completing 495 projects. Among these, 91 projects are in Koshi Province, including 16 in Morang. Additionally, the Government of India has donated 1009 ambulances and 300 school buses to hospitals, health posts, and educational institutions in Nepal. Of these, 146 ambulances and 48 school buses have been given to Koshi Province, including 21 ambulances and 15 school buses in Morang.

As neighboring countries, India and Nepal engage in extensive and multi-faceted cooperation. The HICDPs showcase India's ongoing commitment to support the Nepalese government's efforts in enhancing growth and development by improving infrastructure in priority sectors.

India stands as Nepal's largest developmental donor, with a significant focus on large-scale infrastructure projects funded through grants, which are vital for the accelerated development of Nepal, particularly in health, education, and connectivity.

Earlier this month, Nepal's Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli stated that he had “extremely fruitful and positive” discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok.

“I had a productive meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Bangkok. India prioritizes its relations with Nepal. We discussed various aspects of India-Nepal friendship, particularly in energy, connectivity, culture, and digital technology. We also highlighted key positive outcomes from this year’s BIMSTEC Summit, focusing on disaster management and maritime transport,” PM Modi shared on X after their meeting.
