North Korea Covers Impeachment of South Korean President Yoon Two Days Post Parliamentary Vote

Seoul, Dec 16 (NationPress) North Korea's state media reported on Monday concerning the impeachment of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, just two days after the National Assembly voted in favor of his impeachment due to a poorly executed martial law declaration earlier this month.
The National Assembly approved an impeachment motion against Yoon on Saturday following his brief enforcement of martial law on December 3, which has led to the suspension of his duties until the Constitutional Court makes a ruling on whether to restore him or remove him from office, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) stated, "The impeachment motion against the puppet Yoon Suk Yeol was ratified in the puppet ROK on Saturday," referring to South Korea's official title, the Republic of Korea.
“The puppet Constitutional Court will ultimately decide the fate of the impeachment,” it added.
The KCNA elaborated on the circumstances surrounding the impeachment, highlighting Yoon's public speech last week where he defended the martial law decree as a necessary governance action, while rejecting allegations of insurrection.
“This incited greater backlash and discontent among political and public circles as the puppet shifted blame for the ill-advised emergency martial law declaration onto opposition parties and dismissed the public's demand for impeachment as a 'sword dance of chaos,'” the KCNA reported.
It noted that an earlier impeachment motion against Yoon was abandoned as members of the ruling People Power Party (PPP) chose to boycott the proposal, but the motion was eventually approved as PPP lawmakers grew “disillusioned with their party's disgraceful conduct.”
The KCNA further indicated that several high-ranking military and police officials were detained and suspended amid an investigation into the martial law, branding Yoon as “the ringleader of rebellion.”
A similar account was published by Rodong Sinmun, the North's primary newspaper aimed at its internal audience.
In 2016, the KCNA had similarly reported on the impeachment of then-President Park Geun-hye on the same day the National Assembly moved to impeach her.
After a period of silence lasting about a week, the KCNA finally reported on Yoon's martial law declaration.
