Are OCI cards being given to the 6th generation of Indians in Trinidad & Tobago?

Port of Spain, July 4 (NationPress) - During a significant address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the sixth generation of the Indian diaspora in Trinidad and Tobago will soon receive their Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cards. He conveyed that this community is united not merely through blood ties or surnames, but through a profound sense of belonging as India warmly embraces them.

"I am delighted to declare that OCI cards will now be distributed to the sixth generation of the Indian diaspora in Trinidad & Tobago. You are connected not just by lineage, but by a sense of belonging. India watches over you, welcomes you, and embraces you," stated Prime Minister Modi during his address to the Indian community.

He also acknowledged that PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar's ancestors hailed from the Bihar region of Buxar. "People recognize her as the daughter of Bihar... The heritage of Bihar is a source of pride for both India and the world... Bihar has consistently illuminated paths in various fields for centuries. New opportunities will arise from Bihar in the 21st century as well," he remarked.

The Prime Minister expressed joy over the return of Ram Lalla to Ayodhya after 500 years, underscoring the deep faith and devotion towards Lord Ram. He also reminisced about the Indian diaspora's contributions, stating, "We remember you sent sacred water and Shilas for constructing the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya."

"In a similar spirit of devotion, I have brought a replica of the Ram Mandir and holy water from the Sarayu River," he added.

Highlighting the significance of the Ram-Leelas in Sangre Grande and Dow Village, PM Modi quoted from Shri Ram Charit Manas: राम धामदा पुरी सुहावनि। लोक समस्त बिदित अति पावनि। This signifies that the sacred city of Prabhu Shri Ram is so stunning that its glory resonates worldwide. He expressed confidence that the return of Ram Lalla to Ayodhya was met with immense joy.

"According to Prabhu Shri Ram, the splendor of Ayodhya originates from the holy Sarayu. Anyone who immerses in its waters achieves eternal union with Shri Ram," noted PM Modi.

He further acknowledged the world's largest spiritual assembly, the Maha Kumbh, which took place earlier this year, stating, "I carry water from the Maha Kumbh with me. I request PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar ji to present the holy waters of the Sarayu River and Maha Kumbh to the Ganga Dhara here. May these sacred waters bestow blessings upon the people of Trinidad and Tobago."

PM Modi also shared, "The narrative of the Indian community in Trinidad and Tobago is one of bravery. The challenges your ancestors faced could have shattered even the strongest wills. However, they confronted adversity with hope and resilience. They left the Ganga and Yamuna behind but carried the Ramayan in their hearts, leaving their land but not their spirit. They were not merely migrants; they were ambassadors of a timeless civilization. Their legacies have enriched this nation culturally, economically, and spiritually. Just observe the profound impact you all have had on this beautiful country."

"Our connection transcends geography and generations," emphasized PM Modi.

He also acknowledged PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar as the first female Prime Minister and Christine Carla Kangaloo as the female President. He praised individuals like Basdeo Pandey, Rudranath Capildeo, Sundar Popo, Darren Ganga, and Sewdass Sadhu, whose devotion contributed to the Temple in the Sea. "The roster of achievers is extensive," he noted.

"You, the progeny of Girmitiyas, are no longer defined by struggle. Instead, you embody success, service, and values. There must be something magical in the doubles and dal poori — as you have doubled the success of this remarkable nation!" he remarked during his address to the Indian community.

"During my last visit 25 years ago, we all admired the cover drives and pull shots of Lara. Today, it is Sunil Narine and Nicholas Pooran who spark the same excitement in our youth. Our friendship has only grown stronger since then."

"Cities like Benaras, Patna, Kolkata, and Delhi are not just names in India; they also adorn streets here. Festivals like Navratra, Mahashivratri, and Janmasthmi are celebrated here with joy and pride. Chowtal and Baithak Gana continue to flourish here," he stated.

"The warmth of many familiar faces is evident. I see curiosity in the bright eyes of our younger generation, eager to learn and grow together. Truly, our ties extend beyond geography and generations," concluded PM Modi.
