“In this endeavor, the island has been named after Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Port Blair has been renamed Sri Vijaynagaram, and various islands have been dedicated to our courageous soldiers,” remarked HM Shah during the inauguration and foundation laying of projects valued at Rs 373 crore on Andaman and Nicobar’s Ross Island.
He emphasized that the inhabitants of this island group should explore the exhibition highlighting the new justice codes aimed at abolishing British laws and reinstating the rights and dignity of India’s citizens, to grasp the significant transformations occurring in the criminal justice framework.
In a social media post, the Union Home Minister noted, “On this very ground, Netaji Subhas Babu proclaimed an independent India on December 30 and hoisted the Tricolor. In his tribute, Modi Ji has named two islands ‘Shaheed’ and ‘Swaraj’. In this same group, Modi Ji has also undertaken to name islands after valiant warriors.”
He affirmed that Prime Minister Modi’s government is dedicated to enhancing tourism, development, and ensuring security in the smaller islands.
According to the Union Minister, “This archipelago is gradually becoming the center of our freedom, sovereignty, maritime strength, and economic endeavors in contemporary times. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands hold a vital strategic position within the Indo-Pacific region.
“There are tremendous opportunities for the blue economy, extensive tourism potential, and rich memories of the freedom struggle. While safeguarding our heritage, the Government of India is fully committed to advancing the entire archipelago,” he added.
The Union Minister remarked that this island group was once perceived as a drain on the nation’s finances. “I am confident that in the next ten years, this island group will significantly contribute to the nation’s treasury,” he asserted.
