Port of Spain, July 4 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the Indian community in Trinidad and Tobago, emphasized on Thursday that their life journey in this Caribbean nation has been marked by courage.

He stated, "The narrative of the Indian community in Trinidad and Tobago embodies courage. The challenges your ancestors confronted could have shattered the strongest spirits. However, they faced adversity with hope. They encountered obstacles with determination. They may have left the Ganga and Yamuna behind, but they carried the Ramayan in their hearts. They departed from their land, yet their soul remained intact. They were not mere migrants; they were ambassadors of an eternal civilization. Their contributions have enriched this nation—culturally, economically, and spiritually. Just look at the profound impact you have all made on this beautiful country."

"Our connection transcends geography and generations," PM Modi noted.

The Prime Minister also remarked, "Kamla Persad-Bissessar Ji—the first woman Prime Minister of this nation. Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo Ji—as the esteemed President. The late Basdeo Pandey, son of a farmer, rose to be a Prime Minister and a globally respected leader. Notable figures like math scholar Rudranath Capildeo, music legend Sundar Popo, cricket star Darren Ganga, and Sewdass Sadhu, whose dedication built the Temple in the Sea. The list of achievers is extensive."

"You, the descendants of Girmitiyas, are no longer defined by struggle. You are characterized by your achievements, your service, and your principles. Honestly, there must be something magical in the doubles and dal poori—because you have multiplied the success of this remarkable nation!" PM Modi stated during his address to the Indian community.

"During my previous visit 25 years ago, we admired Lara's cover drives and pull shots. Today, it is Sunil Narine and Nicholas Pooran who ignite the same excitement in our youth. Our friendship has only strengthened since then."

"Cities like Benaras, Patna, Kolkata, and Delhi may be in India, but they are also street names here. Festivals such as Navratra, Mahashivratri, and Janmashtmi are celebrated here with joy, spirit, and pride. Chowtal and Baithak Gana continue to flourish in this land."

Upon his arrival, PM Modi was welcomed with a ceremonial reception, where people joyfully danced to traditional music and performances that showcased a blend of local and Indian cultures.

The Prime Minister arrived in Port of Spain on Thursday, marking the second destination in his ongoing five-nation tour. During his time in Trinidad and Tobago, PM Modi is set to engage in high-level discussions with the nation's leadership to enhance bilateral relations.

PM Modi also interacted with members of the Indian diaspora gathered at the airport, many of whom eagerly awaited to greet the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister also mentioned his meeting with Shankar Ramjattan, Nicholas Maraj, and Vince Mahato, who won the Bharat Ko Janiye (Know India) Quiz in Trinidad & Tobago.

"I met young achievers Shankar Ramjattan, Nicholas Maraj, and Vince Mahato, winners of the Bharat Ko Janiye (Know India) Quiz in Trinidad & Tobago. This quiz has garnered significant participation globally and strengthened our diaspora's connection with India," PM Modi stated.

Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted, "PM Narendra Modi has arrived in the capital city of Port of Spain in Trinidad & Tobago, to a warm ceremonial welcome & Guard of Honour. In a special gesture, PM was received by PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar and members of her Cabinet & several other dignitaries, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and CARICOM Affairs at the airport."
