Official Report: 87% of Cambodia's Population Has Access to Basic Drinking Water

Phnom Penh, Jan 2 (NationPress) Currently, 87 percent of Cambodia's 17 million residents have access to basic drinking water, while 21 percent enjoy access to safely managed drinking water, according to an official statement made on Thursday.
Chreay Pom, the Director General of Technical Affairs at the Ministry of Rural Development, revealed these statistics during a meeting focused on clean water and sanitation in rural areas.
He stated, “By 2024, we expect around 92 percent of the population to have access to basic sanitation, and 51 percent to safely managed sanitation.”
As reported by the ministry, 14 out of 25 provinces in the kingdom have reached Open Defecation-Free status, according to Xinhua news agency.
During the meeting, Chhay Rithisen, the Minister of Rural Development, announced plans to declare seven additional provinces free of open defecation by the end of 2025.
The government aims to guarantee that by 2030, every individual in this Southeast Asian nation will have access to adequate clean water and 100 percent sanitation, all while living in a sustainable environment.
