International Group Demands Action Against Pahalgam Terror Attack at UNHRC
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Paris, March 14 (NationPress) An international civil society organization has drawn attention to the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack that occurred in April 2025 in Jammu and Kashmir, calling for global accountability and a more robust response to terrorism during the ongoing 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva.
During this significant session, Yasser Laaroussi from the ECO FAWN Society urged the global community to enhance its efforts against terrorism and ensure that those responsible for attacks on civilians are brought to justice.
Laaroussi paid tribute to the victims of the assault in the Baisaran Valley, labeling it a “cold-blooded assault” against humanity itself.
He highlighted that targeting civilians intentionally is a serious breach of international human rights law and fundamental humanitarian principles, as reported by the French digital news outlet Paris Telegraph.
Laaroussi emphasized that acts of terrorism pose a direct threat to the universal rights of life, liberty, and personal security. He stated to the UNHRC that terrorism, in all its manifestations, is a blatant disregard for human dignity and the framework of a civilized society.
“No political, ideological, or strategic justification can ever legitimize violence against innocent civilians,” he was quoted by the Paris Telegraph.
His statement also cautioned that cross-border support or tolerance of terrorist organizations could heighten threats to international peace and sovereignty.
Laaroussi called for international collaboration, urging member states to ensure that impunity does not prevail and to enact stronger measures against those who harbor, fund, or facilitate terrorist organizations, according to the report.
The ECO FAWN Society’s remarks reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to defending human rights, safeguarding victims of terrorism, and enhancing global accountability mechanisms.
The report also stated that the remembrance of those lost in tragic terror incidents must be paired with collective international actions to ensure that justice, peace, and human dignity triumph over violence and extremism.
In this appalling attack, 26 innocent tourists lost their lives in the Pakistan-supported assault in Pahalgam, marking it as the most deadly attack on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks, also orchestrated by Pakistan's Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT).
The Resistance Front (TRF), a Pakistan-based terrorist group designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) entity, claimed responsibility for this atrocious attack twice on April 22, 2025.
The TRF, acting as a proxy for the Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), has been implicated in various terror-related operations.
