Tehran, June 1 (NationPress) - The Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is preparing to recommend economics expert Ali Madanizadeh for the role of Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance to the parliament, according to reports.
If Madanizadeh secures the confidence vote from the Majlis, he will succeed Abdolnasser Hemmati, who was impeached on March 2, as reported by Iran's Mehr News Agency.
Hemmati, who previously served as the Central Bank Governor, faced accusations from a significant portion of the conservative-majority Majlis for failing to address the nation’s severe inflation crisis and the rapid depreciation of the Iranian rial. Nearly two-thirds of the Majlis members present during his impeachment supported the decision to remove him within just six months of his leadership in the sanctions-affected nation.
After Hemmati's removal, Rahmatullah Akrami took on the role of caretaker Economy Minister, but President Pezeshkian has opted not to nominate him for the permanent position.
Madanizadeh is a professor of economics at Sharif University of Technology.
He has an impressive academic background, having won a gold medal in the Iranian Mathematics Olympiad and a bronze medal in the International Mathematics Olympiad during his schooling. His postgraduate studies were completed at Sharif University, Stanford, and Chicago universities, as reported by Iranian media.
